Ni siquiera estoy completamente segura de como descubrí a The Format, ni hace cuanto. Simplemente fue uno de esos 'match made in heaven'. Creo que me encontré unas de sus canciones en uno de tantos blogs que me han dejado descubrir nueva música, y fue instantáneo, fue un 'wow que chido' totalmente natural. Y me quede atascada con Interventions and Lullabies prontamente. No me digne a investigar mucho de ellos, y aún ahora, si los viera en la calle probablemente no los reconocería. Pero no se puede negar lo bien que se han 'colado' en mis gustos musicales. Cuando salió Dog Problems, fue algo así como 'wow! salio Dog Problems' y de nuevo me sobrevino una obsesión. Ya ni me acuerdo cuantas veces lo puse a todo volumen en mi cuarto. Se sentía delicioso ponerlo y quedarme atrapada en su majestuosidad sonora. Porque no es exageración, era una todo un deleite la combinación de instrumentos y de voces. No por nada es de mis discos más escuchados, y no por nada es de mis favoritos.

Como ya dije, mi especialidad no es el seguimiento de bandas, efectivamente no lo fue con The Format. Hoy Nancy me señaló a un artículo de wikipedia que hablaba de la separación del grupo (ellos dicen hiatus, potato patata), que dice más o menos así:

We have just put out word that we will not be making a new Format album. Please understand this was a tough decision and we're both upset about it. While we accept there will be false speculation as to why, understand that Sam and I remain extremely close and in fact are still passing the twin peaks box set back and forth in an attempt to figure out who REALLY killed laura palmer. We also want to thank everyone with and within the Format, particularly Mike, Don, and Marko, whom without, none of this would have ever even been fully realized. We both suggest you support their musical talents and whatever they decide to do. And lastly we want to thank the fans who made this the best 5 years of our lives.

Yo también le agradezco a The Format el haberme dado, serán unas 3 horas, de música para tiempos venideros. Aunque la música deje de venir.

Que triste, y yo que lo último que supe fue que andaban sacando el disco de B-sides (que sí eventualmente sacaron, sí sé me enteré), y un DVD.

Y tengamos débiles esperanzas de que tal vez un día decidirán volver. O por lo menos Nate o Sam con proyectos propios, que por supuesto que me interesarán.
